On The Colour Red
VISUAL PERSPECTIVE
Words by Chloe Chan
When we look at a colour, we would associate it with meaning and emotion. Colours act as a visual guide to our surroundings, and shapes our emotional connection to how we react, respond and communicate amongst our surroundings. For Chinese culture the colour red [ 红色 ] is a colour that is seen to represent the values of life, happiness and vitality. Due to the rich colour, red is commonly seen throughout Lunar new year, celebrations, and moments that need a boost of good luck.
A standard red colour, known as Chinese Red is a vivid hue with an undertone blend of orange, best described as vermillion, it can include a range of warm hues, from bright orange-red to a duller bluish-red.
For the Sino Scene Logo colour my brother and I instinctively decided on the colour Red, to represent roots in tradition of colour values, of life and happiness. I would say the hue sits between a Jujube red to Vermillion with the subtle orange fused in with the deep crimson red.
